A few weeks ago we got this basketball hoop for free! Yay for freecycle!

But we all agreed it could use some love. It was looking a little sad out there, all worn out, and it really wasn't inspiring much basketball playing. T suggested painting it, but J didn't think it was possible and didn't have much interest in pursuing it. So she did some research, recruited the kids and...voila! (Just needs something special to spice up the backboard.)

Its not exactly the finest paint job ever, but its a huge improvement. Turns out they make spray paint specifically for plastic outdoor furniture; but we couldn't find the exact colors we wanted in that type so T used a primer spray paint that allowed plastic to be painted with any type of paint. While T primed the whole thing the kids sketched out color combinations to get it just right. B and C were so excited to show J when he got home from work, they made him close his eyes and led him all the way through the house (living room, hallway, kitchen, laundry room) and out the back door and down the stairs and across the back lawn before they let him open his eyes. He was surprised. They were thrilled and proud of themselves. And its already proving to be so much more fun than before!
