What now?

B had her first French playgroup/class today. We were so excited and then...we were the only ones to show up. The teacher still held the class for us, and she's checking to see if the others dropped out or just forgot. If no one else will be there then the class will get dropped, which is fine because a big part of our reason for signing her up was for her to get interaction with other kids her age. Marianne, the teacher, also runs a French immersion preschool out of her home so we might try that once a week. But neither of us is very excited about leaving her someplace without us. J would feel more comfortable if it was an actual school, so T did some research and found a place called the Universe of Colors school. They are in San Mateo, which is a little less convenient but not too bad. She could go once a week, and C and T could even do a Mommy & Me class part of the time. We'll try to schedule visits to both and see how we feel about them.

If you're wondering how B feels about all of this she told us that she wants to "go to school, Mama stay home." Guess she's more ready than we are.

Questionable Table Manners

Now C is at the table with the rest of us and eating like a champ. Its funny that he's eating as much or more "real" food than B was at this age, considering we weren't sure if he would ever want to eat anything. T was starting to worry she'd be breastfeeding into toddlerhood. But we've learned that even if he may get a late start, he'll certainly catch up in no time!

using utensils

spaghetti, always an important first meal

sometimes he just likes to make a big mess, he is still a youngin'

P.S. Never can resist those cute little baby feet!

The Two Year Old and the Art Class

This was B's second week at art class, and she loves it so much. Each week they have a theme, last week was shapes and this week was "me." There are four stations: painting, stamping, gluing and the last is always different. At the end of class they can play with play-dough before story time.

***Brag Alert***
One of the mom's asked T how old B is, and finding out that she's only a few months older than her own daughter she thought for a moment and then said "But she's so good at all of this!"

painting gluing C was there too

After class she was eager to share her work with Daddy, so we surprised him with new art for his cube!

Be Good. Be Shot.

A couple co-workers of J's are running a fund-raising campaign on behalf of a charity called Charity: Water, which works to bring clean drinking water to one billion people in underdeveloped nations. This particular effort, in the name of PDI artists, is a donation in exchange for a portrait. And they do beautiful work (not that its hard to get a beautiful shot with models like these, eh?). If you're interested in seeing more photos from the campaign look here: www.diluna.org/charitywater/ and for more information about how to donate to this effort or start your own fundraising campaign, look here: mycharitywater.org/p/campaign?campaign_id=1056

Good-bye summer, its sure been swell.

The days are getting colder, the skies a little grayer, night comes a little sooner, and football season has begun (or so we've heard); this all adds up to the end of summer. We did our best to squeeze in a couple last days of summer swims, B's already over it though and she'll only go in the hot tub. C loves the pool and was a champ at going under water (thank you Gina, for your wonderful advice on that front). T started school last week and is adjusting to the new schedule, very strange to have homework time in our life again. B started art class last week also, and she L.O.V.Es it! She finally got to paint, something she's really been wanting to try but mom and dad are a total drag and wouldn't allow it in the house. We had to leave her two paintings there to dry, but she'll get to bring them home next Tuesday and we'll take some photos of her work to share. Week after next she starts her French class/play group, which will be really fun.

With all the new demands on our time, we're thinking its about time to structure our days a little more and get the children on a schedule. We've avoided it in the past because J's work schedule can be unpredictable and because B seemed to really thrive in a child led day. But it seems that she's outgrown that a bit, she's not sleeping well at night which could be because she naps too long during the day or sometimes too late in the day. And C seems to be the kind of child who will do better with a schedule and predictable routine. Its funny to think that way back when we were just expectant parents we saw ourselves as being structured from the word "go." Little did we know just how much having a baby would change our lives and us, in the process. We definitely did not see us with a two year old and an almost one year old, trying to institute a routine. Which just proves that the biggest change to our world has been the idea that we can plan too far in the future. We now like to loosely dream about the future, and plan for tomorrow...maybe next week if we're feeling particularly ambitious (or is it rigid?).

Time to snuggle up, don our sweatshirts, and figure out what channel the football game is on (because T has decided to become a Jets fan). Welcome, welcome fall!
